Medical Surgical ICU RN
Position Overview
As a Medical Surgical ICU RN, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality care to patients in the intensive care unit. You’ll work closely with a multidisciplinary team to assess, monitor, and manage patients with complex medical conditions. Your expertise in critical care nursing will be essential in ensuring positive patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients upon admission and throughout their stay in the ICU.
- Monitor vital signs, oxygen saturation, cardiac rhythms, and other relevant parameters.
- Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
Treatment and Medication Administration:
- Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and blood products as prescribed by physicians.
- Manage pain control and provide comfort measures.
- Assist with procedures such as intubation, central line placement, and chest tube insertion.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing education and emotional support.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and detailed electronic health records (EHR).
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving:
- Analyze complex patient situations and make informed decisions.
- Anticipate potential complications and take preventive measures.
Quality Improvement and Safety:
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
Qualifications
- Education and Licensure:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
Current California RN license.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in critical care or medical-surgical nursing.
- ICU experience preferred.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Skills:
- Strong assessment skills and ability to prioritize care.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record systems.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $125,000 to $160,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
